Cinefotógrafo, egresado del Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, desde 1983 se dedica a la fotografía de arquitectura. Gracias a esto, ha colaborado con los despachos de arquitectura más destacados del país. Sus fotografías han sido parte de exposiciones y publicaciones tanto en el ámbito nacional como en el internacional. De igual manera, ha impartido conferencias en torno a la fotografía de arquitectura en universidades, talleres y coloquios.
Su acercamiento a la producción fotográfica, es primordialmente a través de un punto de vista personal, en el cual se destaca su labor minuciosa como creador de imágenes desde un lenguaje contemplativo y reflexivo de las obras arquitectónicas. Sus ensayos fotográficos abarcan una extensa gama temática: desde la arquitectura prehispánica y colonial, hasta la arquitectura moderna y contemporánea pasando por el paisaje natural y urbano.
En sus obras por medio del manejo de la luz natural, se enmarcan elementos arquitectónicos que se convierten en espacios escultóricos o escenográficos. Cabe destacar que, desde sus inicios en esta disciplina, no ha cambiado su tecnología fotográfica; realiza todas sus producciones de manera análoga.
Actualmente su trabajo es objeto de investigación y estudio por parte de académicos de alto nivel, como el Dr. Peter Krieger, investigador del Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas de la UNAM, y del Dr. Xavier Guzmán Urbiola, miembro honorario de la Academia Nacional de Arquitectura. Sin duda, las fotografías de Fernando Cordero no son un simple registro de la arquitectura: representan un punto de vista atípico acerca de los espacios y el manejo de la luz existente en la arquitectura.
Cinematographer, graduated from the Cinematographic Training Center (CCC) since 1983 he has been dedicated to architectural photography. Thanks to this, he has collaborated with the most prominent architecture firms in the country. His photographs have been part of exhibitions and publications both nationally and internationally. Similarly, he has lectured on architectural photography in universities, workshops and colloquia.
His approach to photographic production is primarily through a personal point of view, in which his meticulous work as creator of images from a contemplative and reflective language of architectural works stands out. His photographic essays cover a wide range of topics: from pre-Hispanic and colonial architecture, to modern and contemporary architecture through the natural and urban landscape.
In his works through the management of natural light, architectural elements are framed that become sculptural or scenographic spaces. It should be noted that, since its beginnings in this discipline, its photographic technology has not changed; he performs all his productions in analog photography.
His work is currently the subject of research and study by high-level academics, such as Dr. Peter Krieger, researcher at the Institute of Aesthetic Research at UNAM, and Dr. Xavier Guzmán Urbiola, honorary member of the National Academy of Architecture. Without a doubt, Fernando Cordero's photographs are not a simple record of architecture: they represent an atypical point of view about the spaces and the handling of light existing in architecture.
En la experiencia de Cordero dos híbridos (arquitectura y fotografía) se han reunido felizmente. Su trabajo nos devuelve una imagen llena de abalorios a la que cada quien le aporta sus experiencias y sensibilidad. Aquí el referente importa tanto como la lectura. In Cordero's experience, two hybrids (architecture and photography) have been happily reunited. Para mí, el ensayo fotográfico es el instrumento adecuado para ejercer con libertad mi creatividad y poder transmitir ideas. Ésto me ha permitido llevar a cabo mi labor como autor de obra. Siempre vi los recursos de producción como becas para la búsqueda de ideas creativas, y poder fijar posturas ante lo que pienso que es mi lenguaje. Cada proyecto es una oportunidad única de experimentación y riesgos que abren puertas a descubrir en mí, capacidades insospechadas de creatividad al servicio de algo que considero inmensamente superior a nosotros.For me, the photographic essay is the appropriate instrument to freely exercise my creativity and to be able to transmit ideas. This has allowed me to carry out my images as an author. I always saw the production resources as fellowships for the search for creative ideas, and to be able to fix positions on what I think is my language. Each project is a unique opportunity for experimentation and risks that open doors to discover unsuspected capacities of creativity at the service of something that I consider immensely superior to us.
